Friction

Friction is caused by two forces rubbing together. When it is rough the friction will be more than if it is smooth. Friction will slow or stop an object from moving. Brakes cause pressure on the wheel causing friction which will slow a car or bike down. Sliding is easier on a smooth floor than on a rough carpet. Your students will read a short passage on friction and then answer the following questions.
What does friction do to an object that is moving?
Is it easier to walk on ice or on the sidewalk? Explain.     Why is friction important?     Give 3 examples of friction uses in everyday life?     How could you make a slide ride go faster?     How could you make a slide ride go slower?
