Rubric for States of Matter For Google Apps | |||||
Rubrics are a great benefit for teachers when it comes to marking assignments. It is also great for students as they now know what they need to know to achieve a good mark. This is a free rubric for teachers and homeschoolers as they assess the unit on states of matter. Level 1: Beginning • can identify the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. • can give examples of each state of matter, such as ice as a solid, water as a liquid, and steam as a gas. Level 2: Developing • can explain how particles behave in each state of matter. • can describe how a substance can change from one state of matter to another, such as water freezing into ice or boiling into steam. • can differentiate between physical changes, such as changes in state, and chemical changes, such as burning. Level 3: Proficient • can identify and explain the properties of matter, such as mass, volume, and density. • can describe the processes of evaporation and condensation and their roles in the water cycle. • can explain how changes in temperature and pressure can cause matter to change from one state to another. Level 4: Advanced • can describe the properties and behavior of matter at the molecular level. • can predict the changes in state of matter that will occur given specific changes in temperature and pressure. • can apply their understanding of states of matter to real-world scenarios, such as how to safely store and transport hazardous materials. |
