Your 5th graders will enjoy reading this passage about Dewd Drop, the cool raindrop. As he sits on a leaf the sun is shining down and he becomes quite warm. The water molecules start moving faster and farther away from each other. This made Dewd Drop feel lighter. He started to evaporate or turn into a gas. He transformed into an invisible gas and floats up to the clouds to join others. When the temps get cooler the water vapor droplets in the clouds start moving slower and closer together. The droplets get heavier and heavier and when the clouds cannot hold anymore it rains. They become part of the earth's water cycle. Changes in state are cause by temperature changes.
Now that students have read the passage and learned about the water cycle they will answer the questions without looking back in the text. How much of the story did they comprehend? |
