| This is an overview of the functions of the government at a grade 2 and 3 level. Students will learn about the basics of the government. They learn one of their main function is to introduce laws and rules to maintain order in our society. They protect the safety and security of its people. They provide public services like schools and libraries. The government manages and allocates resources to benefit us and future generations. Elected officials represent the interest of the people they serve. One of their roles is to promote the common good. Students will learn at a basic level that the government protects our rights and freedoms. These concepts are introduced in a simplified way.
