This is a great resource of students as they work through this unit on matter. It will give them the vocabulary they need as they student about solid, liquid and gas.

Matter - Anything that has mass and takes up space.
Mass - The amount of matter in an object.
Volume - The amount of space an object takes up.
Solid - A type of matter that has a definite shape and volume.
Liquid - A type of matter that has a definite volume but takes the shape of its container.
Gas - A type of matter that has no definite shape or volume and fills the entire space of its container.
Mixture - Two or more substances that are physically combined and can be separated by physical means.
Solution - A type of mixture in which one substance dissolves in another substance.
Density - The amount of mass in a given volume of a substance.
Physical change - A change in the form or appearance of matter, but not in its chemical composition.
Chemical change - A change in matter that produces one or more new substances with different properties.
Conservation of Matter - The principle that matter cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed from one form to another.
