Task cards are great for differentiated instruction. Children get to work at their own pace and also have the information given to them in small chunks. 5th graders will stay engaged and be accountable for their learning. The task cards for geosphere are as follows: 1. Create a model of the Earth's layers using plastic cups and clay. 2. Map the landforms of your local area using topographic maps. 3. Construct a scale model of the Earth's tectonic plates. 4. Use a globe or map to identify the Earth's major landforms and make a poster. 5. Create a diagram of the Earth's major rock types. 6. Compare the characteristics of different soil types from your area. 7. Investigate and report on the effects of erosion on a landscape. 8. Research and report on the effects of climate change on the geosphere. 9. Make a poster of the Earth's atmosphere and its components. 10. Learn about and report on the effects of earthquakes and volcanoes on the environment. 11. Create a presentation about the effects of human activity on the geosphere, including climate change and deforestation. 12. Learn about and report on the different types of rocks and minerals found in the Earth’s crust in your area. 13. Study and write about the effects of weathering, erosion, and sedimentation in your area. 14. Identify and make a report of all the formations of landforms such a mountains, valleys, and canyons, plateaus, ravines, cliffs, hills, peninsulas, gorges, and hillsides in your neighborhood. |
