Force on Object Lab

Doing a lab is way more fun than writing a note from the whiteboard or blackboard. Hands on activities will make your students more excited about science and they will remember the facts more easily because they discovered the concept with their own eyes. This experiment will show them that force is a push or pull with varying speeds and directions. String, toothpicks and a paperclip are all that are needed. Predict which method will cause the greatest speed and distance of the paperclip pendulum. Which method will be easier to control the direction? Why? Dangle the paperclip from the string about the length of your arm. To make the paperclip move,do the following: 1. Use the straw to blow on the paperclip 2. Blow on the paperclip without the straw 3. Flick the paperclip with your ?nger 4. Bat the paperclip with the toothpick. Remember to do a prediction before starting and write up a report at the end.
