What is empathy? It is understanding how others are feeling and putting yourself in their shoes. It is an important character trait for each of us to have. Teach your students about being empathetic with this empathy choice board. Empathy Scenarios: Present different scenarios where someone might need empathy. Ask students to write or discuss how they would respond empathetically. Feelings Chart: Create a list with different emotions (sad, anxious, joyful…). Match scenarios to the emotions and discuss why someone might feel that way. Role-Playing: Act out situations where empathy is needed. Discuss how each person felt and how empathy was shown. Empathy Journal: Keep a journal for a week, noting times when somebody showed empathy or saw someone else being empathetic.
