Teaching activities for introduction to journalism in middle school and early high school. All teaching activities are in print and google app format.
This will be an interesting assignment for your 9th graders. They are going to interview a peer and then write a news story about them. Remind them of the pyramid method: the lead, the body and the tail.

Before writing a news story, background information and/or research is essential. To validate your facts, it is often necessary to interview individuals. Interview a person in your class to help you prepare to write a news story (300-400 words about him/her.)

The Task: Use the answers to the questions below and then write a brief news story—350-500 words using the Pyramid Format.
What is your full name? age? city that you live in?
What is the area like that you live in like?
Who do you live with? What relationships are they to you?
Where were you born?
Which schools have you attended?
Describe your family life.
What are your hobbies and interests? How did you become interested in these?
What are your long term goals? How do you see yourself realizing these goals?
What is your biggest accomplishment and/or something you are most proud of?
What is the biggest obstacle you have overcome?
