The boys will especially like to do this lab as all little boys like to crash things. It will demonstrate Newton's third law. For every action, there is always a reaction. A force is created that acts on both of the colliding objects. For this activity you will need miniature cars, a ruler and have access to a wall. Always do a prediction before starting and a write up showing findings when completed. What will happen to each car on colliding and why? Apply a gentle force on one car as you push it into a wall from a 2?3 yard/meter distance. Measure the movement after the car collides. Repeat with a greater force. Then find a partner. Apply a gentle force and push the cars at the same time so that they collide. Measure the movement after each car collides. Repeat with a greater force. This is a great resource for your grade 4's and 5's to discover action and reaction. |
