Colliding Objects Lab

The boys will especially like to do this lab as all little boys like to crash things. It will demonstrate Newton's third law. For every action, there is always a reaction. A force is created that acts on both of the colliding objects. For this activity you will need miniature cars, a ruler and have access to a wall. Always do a prediction before starting and a write up showing findings when completed. What will happen to each car on colliding and why? Apply a gentle force on one car as you push it into a wall from a 2?3 yard/meter distance. Measure the movement after the car collides. Repeat with a greater force. Then find a partner. Apply a gentle force and push the cars at the same time so that they collide. Measure the movement after each car collides. Repeat with a greater force. This is a great resource for your grade 4's and 5's to discover action and reaction.
