Matter/ Fizzing Backpack

Everything around us is made of matter—solids, liquids, and gases. Matter can change in different ways, but not all changes are the same. This is an excerpt from the non fiction paired passage. There are following questions like:
What is the main difference between physical and chemical changes?
What are three signs of a chemical change?
Why is melting ice considered a physical change?

The fictional passage is about Maya hearing fizzing in her backpack. Students will have to read the passage to find out what the fizzing noise was. After reading it they are required to answer the comprehension passage about the text.

There are also great writing prompts for your grade 5 class to use to inspire them to write their own story.
