An earthquake is the shaking of the ground caused by sudden movements deep
beneath Earth’s surface. These movements happen when large pieces of Earth’s crust, called tectonic plates, shift or bump into each other. Earthquakes

Mandy was doing her homework when the floor began to rumble. Her pencils rolled off the desk, and her chair wobbled. “Earthquake!” she shouted, remembering what her teacher had taught her.
