| True Athlete/Last Minute Play For Google Apps | ||||
| At times it is difficult to come up with resources for differentiated instruction. These paired passages are a good resource for that. They are both poems that are shorter than the other paired texts. This will help build confidence in your 4th graders who struggle. One text talks about what makes a true athlete. The other is about sports and a last minute play. Both will help expand vocabulary and teach students to use their critical thinking skills as the answer the questions. One text is fictional and the other is non fiction. Students will also practice comparing texts with the following questions. 1. How do both poems show what makes someone a good athlete? 2. What qualities did Jamal show that match the nonfiction poem? 3. Which poem teaches facts, and which tells a story? How can you tell? The writing prompts are a valuable tool as they teach writing mechanics, style and expression. 1. Expository: Explain how sportsmanship helps teams succeed. Use examples from both poems. 2. Narrative: Write your own poem about a surprising moment in a game. 3. Opinion: Do you think being a good teammate is more important than winning? Why? | ||||
