| What is the benefit of using paired text in your 4th grade classroom? They help engage your students and improve fluency and vocabulary. These two texts are about light. One is fiction and one non fiction. Students need to concentrate on what they are reading because their are questions that follow the text. Tell them to try answering them without looking back in the passage. After they are read both stories they will answer these questions they will continue with the compare/contrast questions. Then to complete this assignment they will choose one writing prompt from the ones given. It will be a narrative, opinion piece or expository. Have you ever wondered how your eyes help you see the world around you? It all starts with light. Light is a form of energy that travels in straight lines. When light hits an object, it reflects off the surface. That reflected light enters your eyes, allowing you to see the object. So next time you look around, remember: you’re seeing the world because light is bouncing off objects and entering your eyes. Pretty amazing, right? Lena was helping her grandpa clean out the attic when she found an old box labeled *Magic Mirror.* Inside was a dusty mirror and a note: *Only works with light.* So light helps us see by bouncing off stuff and going into our eyes? Light is the key to seeing. Without it, mirrors don’t work—and neither do our eyes. Paired Text Questions (Compare & Contrast) How do both passages explain the role of light in helping us see? What scientific ideas from the nonfiction passage are shown in Lena’s story? How does Lena’s experience help you understand light reflection? Which passage gives facts, and which tells a story? How can you tell? | ||||
